Have you been just aching to go out in public sporting only plastic wrap, caution tape, or some other outfit made from materials not considered traditional clothing materials? Well here’s your chance to strut your stuff and support your local roller derby league!

The Southern Illinois Roller Girls have planned an “Anything But Clothes” (ABC) Party for Saturday September 3^rd at Sports Blast in Carbondale. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to SIRG to help fund our travel teams and training needs.

Start planning your outfit now, because I’m sure the SIRG ladies won’t disappoint!

Farewell to Some Super Derby Girls!

We'd like to say goodbye to some of our derby family with this post. A sad one, but a hopeful one!

Last night at the bout, we said farewell to derby girls Arcane Sugar and J.K. Brawling, and N.S.O. Layne Pipe.

The three are moving away to peruse their own career adventures, respectively. From what we've heard though, none of them are moving where derby is not or is not far away!

We'll miss you!

Charity Fundraisers...? Help us out!

Hello!

As you all know, we do fundraisers to help out local charities as well as to help cover costs of candy, poster board, prizes, paint, poms, supplies for when we do things like car washes, etc. etc. etc. that comes with Jeerleading (i.e. we don't pocket anything, most of it goes back to all of you!).

We don't want to be those annoying high school cheerleaders always begging for money from you ((and always doing it in a very boring manner!)).
We want to be fun, fresh, and exciting!

We want your ideas! Have any fun fundraising ideas for us? Something YOU would want to participate in?

~Jeer Try-Outs Cancelled, To be Rescheduled!

Due to slick and icy roads, jeer try-outs got cancelled, but they will be rescheduled at a later date, and hopefully that means those of you who had to work could be off for the next round! We will keep everyone updated with how things go!
I don't know about everyone else, but I couldn't get out of my house yesterday due to icy roads ((although I live out in the boondocks, which might have been the problem..)) and I didn't want anyone else to not be able to get to Try-Outs for the weather! I talked to Foxy and she said ice was out in Harrisburg causing havoc too, so for everyone's safety, we cancelled. But alas! We WILL be rescheduling as soon as we feel it's safe for everyone!
Apologies to those of you who were to attend, hopefully you can still make it out to the next time!

~ Bout Etiquette

We've noted some small things people are doing at bouts that are driving the rest of the crowd CRAZY, knowingly and not. So, we'd like to take some time to tell you about a little thing called Bout Etiquette.
We know it's fun to go crazy at a bout, it's kind of what we do, but there is going a little *too* far. We're just trying to keep everyone happy when we say...
· Cowbells (and other really loud things) are fun, I mean, what better a prescription?! Ringing a cowbell in someone else's ear - not fun. Not cool, not funny, not fun.
We want EVERYONE to be happy and have a great time at roller derby. Please don't ruin someone else's first bout by ringing a cowbell right in their ears. If someone asks you to cut it out, at least cut back on it, hit it a little lighter or less frequently.
Hell, why ruin your own night when it's so loud you can't hear what's going on? ...or when the person beside you punches you in your face and breaks your nose. Still fun?
· When a roller girl is hurt, please don't say stupid things or be loud. This is a serious sport, with real live injuries! We need to be quiet so the refs, roller girl(s) involved and paramedics can communicate easily in order to get the apropriate medical attention to our roller girls!
· Keep your children in check. Another that could ruin a great derby - your children getting plowed over by a roller girl, ref, or a drunk guy. Please remember Suicide Seating is 18 years of age and older. This is for safety AND legal reasons. After the bout, and during half time are pretty fair game, but before hand the refs and roller girls and warming up on the track and during the bout, obviously, are not really safe for your children to be running by the track. Please keep them back!
We know it's hard for kids to sit in a chair that long, so if they need to play, please make them play somewhere out of the way, WITHIN YOUR EYESIGHT!
· Don't drink and drive! It seems pretty simple, but it's something that needs to be said. For your safety and the safety of others!

~ Can I Make//Donate Signs?

Sure! If you've got a hand at art and would like to make us a rad sign to use at bouts or to give away, we're totally open! Use your imagination and make one as cool as you can! You have no idea how rad this would be!
We use our own personal money to fund signs and the paint to paint them, so if you're willing to donate, we're willing to recieve!
Yes, you can even donate blank poster board and we'd be happy. More than happy, actually. We might kiss you. For serious.

~ What's it Take to be a Jeerleader? // Can I Be a Jeerleader?

*Whew* Back to answer more of your questions! Today's question - What's it take to be a Jeerleader? Well, it's actually pretty simple!
First off, you must be a girl 16 years of age or older, with written parental permission if you are under 18.
You must be willing to work hard, support the Southern Illinois Roller Girls above all other teams, ateend every practice and bout required. You have to have transportation to all of the above. You need to take this seriously and be creative! And.. I think that's about it, really. You have to be willing to put your own pocket money into it, and no, dance//cheer experience is NOT a must, although it would help!

Another question that falls into this category is "Can I be a Jeerleader?" Well, take all the above into effect, and then wait 'till we have try-outs next! ((and speaking of...!))

So we all know in derby ((hey, Jeerleading, too! You have no idea the "talent" we have in this squad...)) there are some bumps and bruises. Now there are ways to fix those boo boos, thanks to Bruised Boutique, one of the coolest derby stores on the net ((in our opinion, anyway, and if you live in NH, you can check out the store in person! [your welcome for the free advertising, by the way. ;D])).

Charity Auction on the Horizon!

Who doesn't love art? No one.

In an effort to be green and recycle some old stuff... or something like that... we're going make an art piece out of an old skateboard to auction off during the coming season! How great will that be?? It will be hand-painted with S.I.R.G. art and signed by the roller girls themselves (plus us Jeerleaders of course). The money raised from this will go to a good cause that we will announce soon via our lovely blog here.
We'll have pictures up from beginning to end as we work on it and get it ready for auction. Ladies and Gents, it's going to be beautiful. Almost as beautiful as the new S.I.R.G. logo!! ^^

This is our family -our derby family- and they're the BEST ever! We'd like to thank them for letting us do what we do!

Try-outs were awesome, we got to hang out and get to know new girls and even our own a little more! For an update to the Sisterly Shove bout, it was amazing. Pure and simple.

The scores:

S.I.R.G. B 189 - C.G.R.G. 54 // S.I.R.G. A 208 - R.C.R.G. 65!!

How awesome is that?!

We beat the team that helped make us and the team that we're helping to make!

Our Jeerleaders were fabulous, I got lots of comments on my mohawk, and we even got cheers when we walked in! Haha!

All-in-all, it was a great bout. Everyone had tons of fun, we handed out more than a hundred Twizzlers ((we always have something waiting on you guys during half time, and *weirdly* enough, you're always more hyped after you get it, ;D))!

We had a dance party at halftime as well, and it was pretty rockin! There were at least 30 people dancing in the middle of the rink! Dance Dance!!!!

JailBait here! Our blog is officially up and running, our pages are filled out, and we're ready to roll! ...We've just gotta get our other girls added to our mod list so I'm not the only one giving y'all updates and stuff so you can hear from everyone.
Uhm, I'm not sure there's much to update on right now though, other than our next home bout on September 11th, titled "Sisterly Shove." It will be featuring our two sister teams, The Radioactive City Roller Girls out of Paducah, KY, and the Cape Girardeau Roller Girls from Cape Girardeau, MO. So come check that out!
Oh, and I'd like to welcome our newest Jeerleader, Kace of Spades on to our crew, and also Beltya'z BayBee because I'm not sure if I ever got to formally introduce her to all of you! So welcome, ladies!
